Joomla Trivia

Joomla! came into being as the result of a fork of Mambo between Miro Corporation of Australia, the trademark holder of the Mambo name at that time, and all of the then-core developers. The two groups parted ways on August 17, 2005. Joomla was born two weeks later on September 1st, 2005.

Intro for Marketing Professionals Continued

The Process

Get a big sheet of paper and hang it on a wall. Draw up some rectangles that show module positions as they exist in the template you have selected for your website. e.g., tophalf.jpg

Then get a handful of index cards and write content names on each. Ignore the big sheet of paper -- just write each unique content item on each index card.

e.g.,
Main menu
Banner advertising
Sell t-shirts
Make donation
Sponsors

Then start tacking them onto the big sheet of paper. e.g., If you want banner ads to run in the upper right ...

Remember, you can have multiple content items in the same position, but only if it fits. e.g., You could have 3 items in the left margin but you couldn't have three items in the top position because the height is fixed.

Even if you're not a marketing pro, this is the best way to begin any design process for a new site, Joomla or any other type. Once you standardize on where content is positioned, everything else will fall into place.
