Joomla Trivia

Joomla! came into being as the result of a fork of Mambo between Miro Corporation of Australia, the trademark holder of the Mambo name at that time, and all of the then-core developers. The two groups parted ways on August 17, 2005. Joomla was born two weeks later on September 1st, 2005.

Joomla 101 - An Intro for Marketing Professionals

If you're a non-technical person and new to Joomla!, here's our 60 second elevator pitch of what it is and why a marketing person might find it a useful product.

Think of Joomla as some software that a newspaper company would use -- except instead of a printing press, it's published on a website.

A newspaper is made up of sections and categories. e.g., Sports is a section, football is a category. Same thing for Joomla.

A newspaper has content positions and they generally don't change. i.e., The top left content position on the A2 News is called Spotlight which tells what's going on in town. One week it's mostly stuff about the Art Fair. A few weeks before, it was A2 Festival. The content changes, but the position stays the same.

Here's an example of newspaper positions

This is identical in Joomla.

In many Joomla designs, not all content postions are activated. Here's an example of a template that has over ten positions but only two are active.

But using this template, there are many more places you could arrange content. Here's are the positions in the top half of the this template:

...and here's the bottom half

The role of a marketing person is to define WHAT content will be on the website and select positions for it.

You don't have to know anything about Joomla other than the above to create a professional layout.
